Feyenoord’s meeting with Celtic was a clash of two clubs with passionate supports.
In the end, Martin O’Neill’s men stole the show, sending the two sides’ Europa League prospects in opposite directions.
It was the Celts’ first win in the Netherlands in six attempts since O’Neill himself led them to a memorable win at Ajax in 2001.
It wasn’t a full stadium on the night, due to a section of De Kuip being banned after violating UEFA’s regulations on pyrotechnics.
But one Feyenoord fan, who was allowed at the game, was seen wearing a Rangers shirt at the ground – for a pretty bizarre reason.
Why Feyenoord fan wore Rangers shirt at Celtic game
From Dick Advocaat to Giovanni van Bronckhorst, there are existing connections between Feyenoord and the Ibrox side.
But this wasn’t the reason why one fan braved wearing the shirt at the game.

One poor Feyenoord fan was wearing the jersey because he lost a bet.
How do we know this? Well, careful observers may notice the giant ‘Lost a bet’ sign he was waving outside De Kuip.

He was seemingly forced to stand among the Celtic fans making their way into the ground, likely in order to provoke them.
But no incident has been reported, so it seems that nothing came of it. If it wasn’t for the ‘Lost a bet’ sign, that could be a different story.
It was an especially rough night for the fan given that the bet wasn’t the only loss he experienced.
The result leaves Feyenoord’s Europa League hopes in serious doubt, after four defeats in five under Robin van Persie.
Celtic’s remaining European fixtures
As for Celtic, it’s back-to-back ties against Serie A opposition before another Dutch clash.
Roma come to Celtic Park in a fortnight in the only remaining European matchday before the turn of the year.
After that, the Hoops will face Bologna for the first time. They’ll be hoping to get one over on Lewis Ferguson, for obvious reasons.
The final fixture at home to Utrecht is the most winnable of the three on paper. The game will also see a certain Vasilis Barkas return to Glasgow.
