The Celtic support have not been able to say farewell to Mikael Lustig since he left Celtic to join Gent in the summer. He has not yet returned to Celtic Park to say ‘goodbye’ to the fans.
That did not stop a section of the Hoops support from paying a well-deserved tribute to the player during Saturday’s game against Rennes.
The Scottish Sun revealed that fans displayed a banner with the message ‘LUSTIG YOU’RE THE ONE, THANK YOU’.

Tribute is fully deserved
That tribute is fully deserved for Lustig. During his eight years at Celtic, he was a vital player for the Hoops. He was hugely popular with the Celtic support.
It should not be forgotten about that he won 16 trophies during his time with the club. That includes eight league titles.

When Lustig does return to Celtic Park, there is no doubt that he will receive a very warm welcome from the Hoops support.
Absence will be felt this season

His absence will be felt this season. The Hoops are currently finding it difficult to replace him with a suitable right-back.
However, the time was probably right for Lustig to move on though, as he had struggled to recapture the form of his early years at Celtic.
He will go down as a club legend though. The banner was a fitting tribute to player who played a key role in helping to win the ‘treble treble’.
