Celtic face two big Premiership clashes back to back over the next week as we aim to effectively wrap up nine in-a-row.
Neil Lennon’s treble chasers host St. Mirren tomorrow before travelling to Rangers eight days later.
It’s a duo of fixtures that will hold some familiarity for the players and supporters after we went through a similar run at the tail end of December.
Off the back of Christmas we trekked to Paisley to face St. Mirren, before hosting Rangers a few days later.
The results were mixed with one stuttering win and a bruising derby loss.
But as we prepare to take face a bit of deja vu over the next week, our fortunes couldn’t be more different to last time.
Celtic can effectively wrap up the Premiership title with two wins
Back in December we were in the midst of a closely fought title fight. Now we aren’t.
The one point we were ahead after the last derby match is now 13. It could become 16 if we win tomorrow. It could even be 19 by the end of next weekend if all the results were to go our way.
Lennon’s side have the chance over the next two matches to put the title firmly to bed.
Many would argue that it already is, given that there are just nine games to play.
But with the Gers still holding a game in hand and two derbies to come, you never want to count your chickens. We all know what can happen when you do.
Two wins, or even four points, would surely secure another league title for this team of winners.
They must be looking at it as a perfect opportunity to put things to bed. Last season’s race went on a little bit longer than was necessary with it taking us until the third last game before we crossed the finishing line.
It would be lovely to do it much earlier this season – and win the league by as many points as possible.
