The earliest Celtic can clinch the Scottish Premiership title after beating Rangers yet again

Goals from Kyogo Furuhashi and Jota delivered a 3-2 victory for Celtic over arch-rivals Rangers today and it has moved the Bhoys 12 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

There are now seven games remaining before the end of the season, meaning the Ibrox side can still theoretically make it onto 97 points from their current 76 – if they win all their matches including a final league derby against Celtic.

The Bhoys are already on 88, so only need ten more points from the 21 available to be officially crowned title winners for the second time under Ange Postecoglou. But, presuming both clubs keep winning before the split, Celtic will need to wait until May to clinch it completely.

When are Celtic most likely to win the title?

Postecoglou’s outfit have matches against Kilmarnock and Motherwell ahead over the next couple of weeks before the Premiership splits into a top and bottom six. Rangers, meanwhile, play St Mirren and Aberdeen.

After that, the opponents for each team are not yet confirmed. However, the dates have been released. It all means the most likely date for a Celtic title party at this stage looks like the weekend of May 13th or 14th. Theoretically, the Bhoys could win it at current pace if a derby was scheduled for the prior weekend but that’s very unlikely.

Obviously, a lot can change between now and then – but both clubs have been in incredibly consistent form against the other teams in the league of late, so that weekend in mid-May is the one to pencil in at this stage.

The SPFL and Celtic will already be looking to arrange a trophy presentation day at Celtic Park too. Last season’s occasion was an emotional one with Postecoglou delivering a sensational on-mic address to the supporters before thousands poured into the city centre. Everyone relishes that day out as one to share with family and friends, reflecting on the year that’s been.

With a potential Scottish Cup Final in June, as well, Celtic fans have a big spring and summer to look forward to.
