The eight players to have scored for Celtic this season and three who surprisingly haven’t

It may not seem like it, but we’re 11 competitive matches into Celtic’s season.

It’s been a funny old start back under Brendan Rodgers. The cup competitions have been a bit of a disaster so far — losses to Kilmarnock, Feyenoord and Lazio — yet our form in the league has been very good. As a result, we’re already looking like big favourites for a third Premiership title on the spin.

This Celtic side have managed 20 goals across those 11 games. That ratio is way down on last season. Yet it’s not bad at all when you consider we’ve failed to score at all in three of those matches.

All 20 of the goals so far have been scored by Celtic players (no own goals) while half of them have been netted by just two players. Kyogo Furuhashi and Matt O’Riley each have five goals apiece.

David Turnbull is next on the list with three strikes while Reo Hatate and Luis Palma both have two.

Liel Abada, Daizen Maeda and Greg Taylor all have one goal to their name thus far.

Celtic top scorers (all competitions, so far in 2023/24):

5 goals — Kyogo Furuhashi and Matt O’Riley

3 – David Turnbull

2 – Reo Hatate and Luis Palma

1 – Liel Abada, Daizen Maeda and Greg Taylor

While most of the usual suspects are included there, there are a few Hoops players still waiting to get off the mark.

The obvious three to mention are Callum McGregor, Hyeongyu Oh and Hyunjun Yang. All three have had decent time on the pitch and/or chances to net.

For Oh in particular, you would hope that a goal is around the corner. Otherwise, things could get difficult for him.

The team has shown real signs in recent weeks that they’re starting to thrive under Rodgers. We reckon we’ll have a good few more goals under our belt by the next international break.

Which, by the way, is next month.
