Four Celtic players will be competing in the March international break with their respective nations to secure a spot at the World Cup this summer.

Celtic’s Scotland representatives can look forward to friendlies after finishing top of their play-off group, but there will be a nervy period for some of our other Hoops.

Hopefully more of our players can join those already off to the USA, Canada and Mexico, and to help you out, 67 Hail Hail has a list of the four players in action.

Which Celtic player are you most excited to watch at the World Cup?

Tell us why…

Liam Scales & Johnny Kenny (Republic of Ireland)

Liam Scales and Johnny Kenny will be quietly confident of being a part of the first Republic of Ireland squad to qualify for a World Cup finals since 2002.

They begin with an away game against Czechia in Prague on Thursday 26 March. If they win that, they will face the winner of Denmark and North Macedonia at the Aviva Stadium a few days later.

There will be no Kasper Schmeichel for Denmark following his injury update earlier this week.

Benjamin Nygren (Sweden)

Despite an awful qualifying campaign, Sweden find themselves in the play-offs thanks to their performances in the UEFA Nations League.

Graham Potter has signed a long-term deal with Sweden to put an end to any slim chances of him becoming Celtic manager.

Benjamin Nygren has outperformed his xG this season and he will need to replicate that against Ukraine on 26 March. Nygren will then play against the winner of Poland and Albania for a spot in at this summer’s tournament.

Celtic are better when Benjamin Nygren plays 🤨

Should Martin O'Neill be focusing the team around him so that he scores even more goals?

Josh Clarke (On loan at Partick Thistle – Northern Ireland)

The final one of our Celtic internationals competing in the UEFA World Cup play-off games is Josh Clarke.

On loan at Partick Thistle, he has impressed in the Scottish Championship and has been called up for Northern Ireland’s visit to Italy in the semi-finals.

It will be a tough task for Clarke and co, but victory will pit them up against Wales or Bosnia & Herzegovina.
