The Green Brigade will have the option to return to Celtic Park for the game against Hamilton Accies tonight, it has been revealed.

Club supporter liaison officer John Paul Taylor confirmed the news after a fan enquired whether the ultras group would be in the stadium for the Premiership fixture.

Headlines were made last week when the club decided to close the bottom 13 rows of the standing section for the Europa League clash against Rennes.

Their statement, as reported by the BBC, said: “Celtic has ultimate responsibility for the safety of all our supporters and it is a responsibility which we take very seriously. We need to tackle any behaviour which can compromise the safety of our supporters including the use of pyrotechnics, overcrowding and offensive chanting or banners.

“Regrettably, these charges and sanctions continue to damage the club’s reputation and this behaviour continues to threaten supporter safety.”

The Green Brigade being allowed back for Hamilton is big news

While it is not clear exactly what discussions have gone on in the background, it is particularly pleasing to see the club allow the group back. The Green Brigade are an important part of what goes on at Celtic Park. They bring the noise and colour for every occasion, and can be crucial for matches like tonight against lesser opposition.

Hopefully the ban being lifted will apply to this Sunday’s Betfred Cup final against Rangers too. The atmosphere at Hampden is set to be sensational and, with both sides having an equal allocation, it is crucial that we get the upper hand off the pitch as well as on it.

It is not 100% clear whether the group will take up the option to return tonight, as they may still feel harshly treated after last week’s ban. But all will become clear tonight as we take to the field against Brian Rice’s men.

Celtic have rarely been in a better place over the past few years. Having everyone signing from the same hymn sheet (quite literally) is only going to improve things further. Hopefully the Green Brigade are back tonight.
