Celtic supporter reaction to speculation that Fergal Harkin could be appointed as our Director of Football has been generally positive, from what I’ve been able to gather this weekend.

Alan Nixon at The Sun reported over the weekend that Harkin is being eyed for the new developed role at Celtic Park.

Chief Executive Peter Lawwell is on his way out of the club, with incoming CEO Dominic McKay possessing a distinct lack of football experience.

It’s thought a new specialised role will be created to oversee the entire football department at the club, not just scouting and recruitment.

Harkin has worked at Manchester City for the last decade and is currently ‘Football Partnerships and Pathways Manager’ at the City Group.

As we discussed earlier, he already has connections to Celtic in his history, both recently and decades ago.

It’s likely that very senior people at the club are already well aware of Harkin and the skills he could offer Celtic.

As you’d expect, there’s a bit of suspicion from some fans regarding the link to Man City, which has been well utilised by the Bhoys over the last few years.

However, the creation of a DoF should be seen as a progressive step and one which can help take Celtic to the next level.

Harkin has extensive experience and fantastic knowledge of several footballing markets, working with an elite club.
