Making it to a World Cup is the dream for countless footballers. For Celtic’s Benjamin Nygren, however, one unexpected omission still managed to leave him disappointed.
Nygren is currently representing his country on football’s biggest stage, but he revealed there was one thing missing from the experience when he opened his Panini 2026 World Cup sticker album.
Should Benjamin Nygren have been nominated for PFA Player of the Year?
Nygren couldn’t find himself in the World Cup Panini album
Like many football supporters, Nygren grew up collecting Panini stickers while following the World Cup.
That childhood connection prompted him to bring the latest album with him to the tournament, only to discover he had not been included among the players featured.
Speaking about the situation, Nygren told The Scottish Sun, “It will be incredible to play at the World Cup and I am very optimistic – I think we can go as far as we want.
“You have to aim high. I have packed my Panini sticker album with me because it’s something that meant a lot to me when I was growing up watching World Cups.
“But when I opened it, I wasn’t there myself, so it was a bit of a bummer. I was so fu****g disappointed, it’s ridiculous!
“That’s the way it is though….I’ll just have to collect the other players on the team instead.
“Maybe you can email them and complain on my behalf!”
A reaction Celtic supporters will appreciate
There is something refreshingly honest about Nygren’s response.
Many players would simply laugh off the situation, but his comments showed just how much the World Cup still means to him.
Despite reaching the biggest tournament in football, he was still excited enough to pack a sticker album in his luggage.
The disappointment was clearly genuine, but so was the humour. His joke about emailing Panini summed up the light-hearted nature of the story.
For Celtic supporters, it is another glimpse into the personality of a player who has quickly built a positive Celtic reputation.
Reaching a World Cup is an achievement that far outweighs a missing sticker, but Nygren’s reaction is likely to be something many football fans can relate to.
