The perfect title race message coming out of Celtic

Celtic captain Callum McGregor has insisted he and his teammates won’t crack under the pressure of the title race, despite dropping points against Hibernian on Sunday.

The Bhoys bounced back from Easter Road disappointment with an immediate response and three points against St Mirren.

Now they head to West Lothian for another massive match the club can’t shake a habit of not winning against.

McGregor is insisting they are actually enjoying the pressure of the title race though. Far from feeling laboured, he feels it’s bringing out good qualities in his team.

As quoted by The Glasgow Times, he said: “This is what football’s about. That’s what you want. You want the challenge.

“Every single game there is pressure and you have to rise to the pressure, but that’s what it’s like playing at a big club.

“The boys are enjoying it as well. You can see it, even day to day in training. They’re up for it, they’re together, there is good camaraderie. Nights like Wednesday will stand us in good stead.”

If this is the tone McGregor is setting in the dressing room then that can only be a good thing.

It’s a stance born from optimism not adversity, which is exactly what we need from the players. They can’t feel like they are fighting against something. They have to feel they are playing for something.

Celtic play their best football when they have a bit of freedom and approaching games like this has the best chance of delivering that.

Hopefully we see a Celtic up for the game on Sunday, asserting themselves on the opponent in the way we know will lead to victory more often than not in this title run-in.

In other news, Michael Nicholson hails “fantastic” Celtic efforts as Ange and players help raise £100,000 for charity.
