The phone call that has new Celtic signing ready to run through brick walls for Brendan Rodgers

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has been a central figure in the club’s recruitment this summer.

In 2023, it felt as if Rodgers was as much of a spectator to Celtic’s summer transfer business as supporters. A raft of players arrived at the club who never really ever looked like they would fit in under the Bhoys boss.

This year, however, the manager is getting the players he wants. We know that Rodgers is a fan of Kasper Schmeichel, Paulo Bernardo and Adam Idah.

Alex Valle has also spoken about the influence Rodgers had on his arrival, while Arne Engels, Auston Trusty and Luke McCowan appear to be archetypal Rodgers signings too.

Luke McCowan is ready to give everything for Celtic

McCowan, a lifelong Celtic fan, is desperate to get on the pitch to show what he can bring to the club. A late-night deadline day call from Rodgers has also fired him up.

The midfielder has shared that after just a few minutes of speaking to the manager, he is ready to do anything it takes to succeed.

Speaking to Celtic TV, he said: “The manager got my number and left me a lovely message, asking me to call him and as soon as I phoned him he was nothing but complimentary about myself and welcomed me to the club.

“And after two minutes on the phone, I was ready to run as fast and as hard as I can for him on the pitch. So I’m ready to go. It’s special to come to a club this size and just know that you’re going to be a part of something that’s going to be really great.

“It’s a bit surreal even sitting here with the Hoops on. I don’t really know how to put it into words. It’s just something that I’ve been desperate to get down as soon as I knew Celtic were interested. I’m just ready to get to work and show that I’m a player that can play for this club.”

McCowan hoping for Rangers call

The former Dundee midfielder is also hoping to be involved as early as this weekend, continuing: “I’ve grown up watching the derby and you know what it means to everybody at this club and you know, come Sunday, what emotions it can bring, and I’m sure that if I’m part of that I can hopefully add to it and hopefully enjoy it.”

He’s unlikely to start but could be on the bench and involved in the second half. What a dream it would be for him to take the pitch and make his debut in a fixture that has captured his attention all his life.
