The real reason Callum McGregor was subbed vs St Mirren as Rodgers delivers double Celtic injury update

Celtic’s win at St Mirren was not without its casualties.

The hard-fought victory saw Brendan Rodgers take his Celtic side 16 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table after Rangers lost against Motherwell.

The Celtic manager had to wait until late in the game to secure the three points after a Hyunjun Yang masterclass helped the Hoops beat St Mirren by three clear goals.

But the win wasn’t without its costs. Auston Trusty was taken off after a nasty head clash and Callum McGregor was surprisingly taken off the field of play as Celtic took another step toward their fourth title in a row.

Speaking post-match, Rodgers delivered an injury update on the Celtic duo.

Brendan Rodgers not taking ‘any risks’ with Celtic duo

Rodgers told the BBC, “Callum had felt his calf. He should be fine but we don’t want to take any risks with him.

“Auston got a bang in the head and had to get five stitches.

“He should recover but Scales came in and did really well.”

With Celtic set to face an in-from Hibs on Sunday in the Scottish Cup, Rodgers will need McGregor and Trusty in the side if he wants to take care of the capital club at Celtic Park.

Hibs are unbeaten now in fifteen games where, rather ironically, their last defeat was at Celtic Park in a 3-0 loss to the Scottish champions back in December.

Celtic’s record vs Hibs under Brendan Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers has faced Hibs 15 times over two spells as the Celtic boss and has enjoyed a dominant spell over the Edinburgh club.

Whilst Rodgers has never lost to Hibs at Celtic Park, they have recorded a 2-2 draw in the Hoops boss’ first-ever game against the Easter Road club back in September 2017.
