The reason behind Celtic’s Adidas kit switch for up-and-coming SPFL clash

Celtic supporters will be in for a slightly unusual sight at Parkhead later this month, with the Hoops set to wear their away kit against St Johnstone.

When the Bhoys play at Paradise, fans are used to seeing Ange Postecoglou’s side in the famous green and white Hoops.

The Celtic manager and his squad will go up against Callum Davidson’s Saints side on Christmas Eve, as they aim to remain top of the Scottish Premiership on Christmas Day.

Of course, with the Hoops’ dominance in recent years, seeing the Bhoys top the league over the festive period has somewhat become a tradition.

However, for the up-and-coming Scottish Premiership fixture against St Johnstone, there will be a slight change to another tradition involving both sides.

Instead of sporting the green and white Hoops, Celtic and St Johnstone will both be wearing either their away or third kits.

You would expect Ange Postecoglou’s side to be playing in their black and dark green stripped-away kit, whilst St Johnstone are likely to be wearing their purple away strip.

The reasoning behind this kit switch-up from both sides is due to all Scottish Premiership clubs taking part in Shelter Scotland’s #NoHomeKit campaign.

All 12 top-flight clubs will be wearing their away colours to raise awareness around ‘the growing number of people who do not have a safe or secure place to call home’ [The Scotsman].

English Premier League sides, including Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton, have also committed to supporting the campaign.

Last weekend, the Celtic Women’s side and the rest of the SWPL raised awareness for the campaign, with the Ghirls sporting away colours in their home match against Dundee United.

It is fantastic to see all the Scottish Premiership clubs raising awareness during the matches taking place on the 23rd/24th of December.

Although supporters may be used to seeing Celtic in the green and white at Paradise, this is undoubtedly a cause and tribute to raise awareness that everyone can get behind, particularly at this difficult time of year.

Supporters have also been urged to back the campaign by following the lead of clubs and wearing away or third kits.

I am sure those who are aware of the gesture will be more than happy to help raise awareness, and here’s hoping it can help contribute towards Shelter Scotland’s campaign.
