As Celtic prepare for what’s going to be an intense end to the season, all everyone is focusing on is whether we can take the Scottish Premiership title from Rangers.
Quite rightly too. Nobody expected us to be genuine contenders given what had happened last season. Many simply believed that this was going to be a transitional season where a substantial amount of improvement would suffice.
But instead, Celtic are now the favourites to take the championship, and at the same time could make a real mockery of an infamous Dave King quote.

Indeed, the controversial former Rangers chairman stated back in May 2018 that Rangers only needed to win one league title for Celtic to “fold like a pack of cards” [Sky Sports]. That was with regards to our domination of Scottish football. The balance of power would apparently be shifted so long as the Ibrox club won a single title.
They managed that last season in what was a year to forget for Celtic supporters. But since then, Celtic have managed to win the Premier Sports Cup, top the Premiership, and will tonight face Dundee United in an attempt to reach Hampden again for the Scottish Cup semis.
Celtic have already done anything like fold since last season. They all thought Rangers stopping the 10 was going to end us. Instead, they’re all looking up at the Hoops in sheer envy of what’s been achieved this season.
Celtic have a genuine opportunity to instantly restore their dominance of Scottish football
A treble was never supposed to be on the agenda this season. So much so that Ange Postecoglou and his players have consistently been dismissing it. Instead, it’s been a simple case of one game at a time.
However, if truth be told, things have changed. With one cup already in the bag and a genuine shot at the other as well as the Premiership, it’s all on the table for Celtic. Even winning the Premiership and securing a double would show up King’s remarks. But a treble? That would really be rubbing it in.
King was always one for playing to the gallery whenever he could. His M.O was trying to wind up Celtic and making remarks that would go down well with his own support. After some dismal managerial appointments, he was clearly a desperate man back in 2018 when he made his “pack of cards” remarks.

Granted, Rangers winning the title did hurt. Let’s not kid ourselves. It was a painful season and one in which we all thought would take some time to recover from. But the idea that we would crumble or totally self-destruct as a competitive force was always going to be well wide of the mark.
To have lost all 3 domestic competitions last year only to win them all back again would be a real first. Something totally unheard of that will leave King’s remarks looking as foolish and immature as they actually are.
It’s funny enough that Celtic went on to win another 2 trebles immediately after King’s comments. However, to completely defy them and show them up as false under Ange? It would certainly be an extra boost for supporters to go with any potential success.
