There is one Celtic concern today; it's time to discuss Ajeti

I’m not a Celtic fan that likes dwelling on the negatives when there’s a win on the go. Better yet when there’s a quadruple treble on the go!

But there’s something that seriously caught my eye in that Celtic line-up today. Odsonne Edouard was a cert to start – we all know that. However, there was no Albian Ajeti on the bench for today’s Scottish Cup final win vs Hearts.

Ajeti was on the bench for our 2-0 win vs Kilmarnock last Sunday. He never played a minute, so expecting him to start today was always a stretch. But to expect him to be in and around the squad is hardly ridiculous.

We’re quite right to question this. Ajeti cost us £5million in the summer (Sky Sports). He’s a player who was signed to not only participate in these games, but to be the difference in them. How we could’ve done with an on-fire Ajeti this afternoon.

But once again he was left out altogether. The last time that happened was in our 1-1 draw with St Johnstone at Parkhead. After that one, Lennon said that he had a hamstring complaint.

Celtic splashed out plenty on Ajeti

So it could be the case that he has a persistent problem with it. That would be a massive concern in its own right, but it would perhaps be more concerning if there was nothing wrong with him at all.

When the Swiss striker signed for us in the summer, he started on fire. He had five Premiership goals in his first six games. The last of those – a strike against Hibs back in September – was his latest one.

He’s only managed one 90-minute appearance all season – the 2-0 home loss to Ross County several weeks ago. He’s yet to play a full league game for us – incredible stuff.

And the fact he’s missing in one of our biggest matches of the campaign today – it doesn’t bode well for him. Neil could do with coming out and telling us exactly what’s going on here.

Sure, we’ve just won the Scottish Cup and that’s superb for the club. But the games keep on coming thick and fast and no further ground can be lost in the title-race. So we’re entitled to know just what’s going on with our most expensive signing of the summer.

Ajeti missing today has sent some alarm bells ringing for me personally. With Edouard and Leigh Griffiths both netting today meanwhile, it’s fair to say that Albian is way down the pecking order as things stand.
