Celtic’s win over Kilmarnock was not without its refereeing controversy as Brendan Rodgers’ team fought out a hard-earned win at Rugby Park.
The Celtic boss labelled the victory over Kilmarnock as ‘fighting football’ as the Hoops had to show a different side to the usual silky footballing team they are.
Celtic’s players put in a serious shift at Kilmarnock with Kasper Schmeichel and Nicolas Kuhn the two stand-out performers.
However, there was a challenge on Celtic striker, Adam Idah, that former Hoops hero Peter Grant reckons should have resulted in a red card for Derek McInnes’ team.
Kilmarnock’s Joe Wright ‘lucky’ to see red vs Celtic
Adam Idah got an elbow to his face from Wright in the battling win which resulted in the Celtic striker requiring length treatment to stem the flow of blood.
And Grant reckons the Kilmarnock man was very fortunate to have received his marching orders.
Grant told Celtic TV, “If he [Nick Walsh] watches that again, he’s actually swung the elbow. I know you’ve got to jump, and I think it’s a difficult one, but when you actually move your arm towards it, that’s a different question.
“If you’re not there jumping, and you use that for your balance and to get you off the ground, I understand that and then you actually move your elbow towards a player. I think he’s lucky he only gets a yellow.”
Kilmarnock bench knew elbow to Celtic’s Adam Idah was a red
And speaking further, Grant spotted the reaction of the Kilmarnock bench which convinced the former Celtic man that Wright’s teammates knew he should have been sent off.
“I just don’t understand why it’s not being looked at again,” continued Grant, “And I’m looking at the Kilmarnock bench and all the players are actually talking to each other because they know. They’ve actually seen the incident.

“And because Wright has been sent off a few times this season and he got away with one at Ross County as well.
“So he is very, very fortunate. It’s not as if he’s not had previous.”
Luckily for Celtic, there was no lasting damage to Idah and the decision not to send Wright off didn’t cost the club points on the park.
However, the incident raised more VAR questions as the match officials take centre stage once again.
