James Forrest is now entering into his 17th season as a Celtic player.
He became Celtic’s most decorated player of all time last season when the Hoops clinched their fourth Scottish Premiership title in a row.
Forrest has made an incredible 529 appearances, and he’s still a part of manager Brendan Rodgers’ plans for the season ahead.
However, Forrest will see his contract expire next summer, with discussions on potentially extending his long stay yet to come.
And speaking at a press conference ahead of Celtic’s away trip to Aberdeen on Sunday, the veteran winger admits he’s ‘scared’ about the future.

Forrest discusses Celtic contract and retirement thoughts
Forrest was asked by reporters about his contract situation, and whether he has given retirement from playing any thought.
The 34-year-old replied: “I think every player is different. I think it’s been good for me over the years and the club has always just worked well.
“But obviously I’m getting older and I really just want to enjoy it, keep working hard and keep trying to contribute to the team when I can.
“When that discussion comes, I honestly just want to keep trying to enjoy every day. Obviously I’ve loved it here. I’ve given everything I’ve got to Celtic and I want to continue to do that.
“It’s been a really good fit up to now and I’m just going to keep enjoying it while it lasts.
“I have thought about it (retirement) a wee bit. I left school at 15, 16 and that’s all you have ever done and all you’ve ever known. So I want to keep playing for as long as I can, but yeah, it’s scary.
“I’ve played with players who have retired and different people go down different paths once they finish, but I don’t really know what I’ll definitely do after.
“But I think it’s scary because it’s what I’ve done for 20-plus years and it’s been unbelievable, it’s been really, really good.
“I have given everything to Celtic and I will continue to do that until my contract is up and they might shove me out the door anyway, so we will see what happens.”
Forrest’s Celtic career in numbers
Forrest has the end of his time at Celtic in the back of his mind, but he will be fully focused on delivering more trophies for the Hoops this season.
| Statistic | Total |
|---|---|
| Appearances | 529 |
| Goals | 110 |
| Assists | 110 |
| Yellow Cards | 16 |
| Red Cards | 2 |
| Minutes Played | 32,837 |
| Major Trophies | 26 |
Of course, Celtic will be targeting another domestic Treble, and winning all three could take Forrest to an incredible 29 trophies won at the club.
And how long will it be before Forrest gets on the scoresheet this season after leaving very late last campaign in the final league game versus St Mirren?
