Celtic fans will know by now that their side are in a title race that could go to the wire under Brendan Rodgers.

Undoubtedly, the Bhoys have made hard work of proceedings so far, throwing away a considerable advantage at the top, and now find themselves second in the Scottish Premiership table.

League titles aren’t won in February; however, they can certainly be lost without the appropriate results coming to fruition on the pitch.

Last weekend, Celtic dropped the ball against Kilmarnock, gifting visiting midfielder David Watson the freedom of Parkhead to snatch a last-gasp point for the visitors.

Nevertheless, there is still time to recover the situation in their quest for a domestic double under Rodgers.

Character and resolve are two qualities that have embodied successful Celtic teams in recent seasons, and the Irishman will need to stir his players to fight tooth and nail to turn the tide.

Next up is a trip to Motherwell on Sunday, in the first of 12 games that decide who the champions of Scotland will be come May.

Michael Stewart drops his verdict on Celtic’s title chances

Pundit Michael Stewart has given his verdict on who he thinks will win the Scottish Premiership title, though it is not the answer that Celtic fans will want to hear.

Despite predicting our rivals as favourites, the 42-year-old believes that the Hoops’ key players returning from injury, such as Cameron Carter-Vickers and Reo Hatate, will be crucial to our chances of success.

He also told viewers of Sportscene that Rodgers’ side need to build some lasting momentum to keep themselves in contention, as he explained: “For me, it would be silly not to say that Rangers are favourites.”

“They’ve got the ascendancy and the momentum. The challenge is there for Celtic. They need to get their big players back and get them back quickly to try to make sure they don’t find themselves any further behind.

“They have to keep themselves in the hunt as it will be tight in the end.”

Celtic are now in sink-or-swim territory, and it appears that they have more than a few doubters in the face of their ongoing battle for superiority in the league table.

In the past, people have written us off and been left with egg on their face, though it is clear a lot of work needs to be done if we are to repeat the trick on this occasion.

For now, stringing together consistent results is the only thing that matters and winning on Sunday would be a good step in the right direction.
