Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has blasted Rangers after SPFL clubs voted to deny their push for an independent investigation into the league body, The Daily Record report.
A massive 27 of the 42 clubs, including Celtic, did not feel the dossier of evidence presented by the Ibrox club was serious enough to embark on a QC-led, open-ended look into the SPFL’s affairs.
One could argue that the second-placed side in the Premiership have been left looking foolish.
Sutton thinks they only have themselves to blame.
As quoted by The Record Celtic Podcast, he said: “The bottom line is, if I was a player and Rangers were 13 points clear at this time, you’d just have to accept it.
“They’ve made a rip-roaring a**e of things since the turn of the year, that’s the bottom line. They only have themselves to blame. They can look around, point fingers and say ‘well, it’s the SPFL’s fault’ – but Neil Doncaster didn’t switch off from a corner.
“It’s more about problems on the pitch and they’re trying to apportion blame elsewhere. I’m not sticking up for the SPFL at all here, but the bottom line is would there be this whole hurrah if Rangers were 13 points clear at the top?
“We know the answer, let’s not kid ourselves.”
Toys have been quite spectacularly thrown out of the pram over the last few weeks and Sutton is spot on with his assessment. It’s all been a complete deflection from the realities on the pitch at Ibrox.
Celtic have romped towards another league title and will rightfully be awarded a ninth title in a row.

That obviously isn’t expected to sit well with Rangers or their supporters but that’s what is happening. They need to get used to it.
You’d think there would be a hunger to move on from that and push towards stopping our tenth next season instead of embarking on an ill-fated crusade against the SPFL.
As always though, bitterness reigns.
