Charlie Mulgrew has taken his first step into football coaching after a long playing career, which will continue in conjunction with his new role at Dundee United.
Mulgrew has been playing football professionally for 18 years after breaking through the Celtic academy and pursuing an initial senior career at other clubs.
He returned to the Bhoys for a successful stint in the first team from 2010 to 2016 and, now at United, is eager to get started with coaching in a new player/first-team coach hybrid position.

Speaking to the Tayside club’s official website, the defender said: “I love being at Dundee United and this is a fabulous opportunity for me to take up a coaching role. I still have a lot to offer on the pitch for the club, but this opens my future to learn and grow as a coach.
“I will do whatever it takes to help this club achieve its targets and It was an easy decision when Liam asked me to step up and become part of the coaching set up. I am excited to get out on the training pitch and help in any way I can while doing my bit on the park each week also.”
Mulgrew was always popular with Celtic supporters and has been an amusing addition to the media scene in Scotland over the last couple of years too.
No doubt fans will be watching his coaching career closely to see if he can also make a success of that. With strong personality, leadership skills and charisma, he has as decent chance as anyone if he works hard.
The best of luck to Charlie as he embarks on a new chapter!
