Legia Warsaw are urging as many of their supporters as possible to attend tonight’s match against Celtic in honour of Artur Boruc.
Controversy has surrounded the fixture in Poland after the club’s die-hard supporters considered they had made tickets far too expensive for the event.
In a bid to boost dreadful ticket sales they eventually bowed to demands and reduced prices by up to a third. Today, they’ve sent out a plea to their fans on the official website to turn up and back the goalkeeper.

The club state: “There are some events that only happen once. There are moments that stay with us forever. Finally, there are people who have gone down in history in golden letters. This is the case of Artur Boruc. A legend, a king, but above all – a Legionary.
“As he says himself: his heart has always beaten for Legia. He showed his love for the club for many years. It was Artur Boruc who with his excellent attitude on the field delighted thousands of Legia’s fans. Beloved in the fan community and always committed to the Warsaw team, today he invites you to a match dedicated to him, the King!
“This will not be an ordinary match… This is a special event for the whole club. It is a moment which every Legionnaire has to experience. It’s a special, royal day. Almost two years ago, history came full circle. On July 20 we want to do everything to write a new one.
“We would all like the stadium to be filled to the last seat on that day. The match against Celtic will be a unique, the only opportunity to say goodbye to one of us – a Legionary. This match is not only the moment of the last farewell to King Arthur but also a joint Legion game.
“Let the atmosphere of this event be felt all over the city, not only in the stands of our stadium. Before us is a unique and exceptional holiday. Be a part of it and co-create the atmosphere. Two brands recognized in Europe, associated with Artur Boruc, will meet on the pitch that day, so the football feast is simply certain!”
Ticket sales have picked up for the fixture, but not to the extent the club are hoping for in terms of their stadium being close to capacity.

The Stadion Wojska Polskiego can hold 31,800 people and the club had initially only sold around 4,000 briefs for the encounter before reducing prices.
As of this lunchtime, around 12,500 tickets have now been sold, according to fan outlet Legia.net.
There could be decent walk-up or late sales, but the optimistic expectations now appear to be that the stadium will be half full at best.
Still, it should be a nice event for Boruc to say goodbye to his football career and Celtic will certainly be glad to play their part, considering how iconic he became in Glasgow.
