Celtic have spent years looking for the next Henrik Larsson.
It’s highly unlikely they will ever find any player of the same ilk as the King of Kings who was in a league of his own.
Even comparisons have been pointless in recent years with a debate being raised as to the best Celtic striker since Larsson between Kyogo and others like Gary Hooper.
But while Celtic won’t ever see a Larsson 2.0, Thomas Gravesen reckons one striker could potentially reach similar levels as the Swedish hitman if he makes the right career choices.
Mathias Kvistgaarden is a Celtic target and the Bhoys have scouted the Dane on multiple occasions in person. His 17 goals this term has seen big clubs around Europe taking notice and there are other interested parties.

Mathias Kvistgaarden could be Celtic’s next Larsson, says Gravesen
Yet ex-Hoops midfielder Gravesen, speaking back in 2024, always insisted Kvistgaarden should make the logical next step and head to Glasgow to become a legend there.
“He is shining in his absence at Brøndby,” Gravesen told tiplsbladet. “They should be happy that he is there and enjoy the time he has left, because he has scored 10 goals, and none of them are from penalties.
“If he moves to Scotland, I am sure that he can reach Henrik Larsson’s level if he spends five to 10 years at Celtic. He is simply that good and strong.”
Larsson’s Celtic record is untouchable
Larsson’s incredible haul of 252 goals in green and white will never be touched.
The fact that the player stayed at Celtic Park as long as he did – before still enjoying years at the top with Barcelona and Manchester United – is incredible.
Kvistgaarden’s career, at 22, is only just really beginning and it remains to be seen whether a move to a European heavyweight will work for the forward when big-money moves can often backfire.
Celtic need a striker, that’s true. But with £9million Adam Idah still pushing for success in Glasgow and 30-goal Daizen Maeda flourishing, the door may have closed on Celtic spending so much, £11m, on Kvistgaarden.
