The Glasgow district of Castlemilk has celebrated its proud roots in Scottish football by creating a mural paying homage to 13 footballers, including three who have links to Celtic

There are plenty of boyhood Hoops fans who have made the list, including the duo of Eddie and Frank Gray.

Irish national team hero Ray Houghton is also there, but there are three with direct connections that made the cut.

Three Celtic stars feature on the Castlemilk, Glasgow, mural

Three Celtic connections made the cut for the impressive mural.

Forgotten Hoops midfielder James McCarthy is one of those you will be able to find on the mural.

Although he didn’t do anything of note for Celtic, McCarthy enjoyed a successful Premier League career, and played regularly for the Republic of Ireland.

Head of academy coaching Stevie Hammell was the second on the list. Hammell never played for the Bhoys, even though they had a £1m bid rejected for him in 2005. He has been working with Celtic since 2023.

Finally, current Peterhead boss Jim McInally, who began his career with Celtic, was also immortalised on the mural.

McInally only made a handful of appearances in all competitions across the 1980s but did return in a youth coaching role during Martin O’Neill’s first spell between 2000-2004.
