Three Celtic flops named among the worst transfers made by SPFL clubs this season

Celtic’s recruitment this season has raised question marks, and their failures have been acknowledged by three of the signings being named as the worst transfers to take place in the Scottish Premiership.

Only a handful of signings like Benjamin Nygren and Julian Araujo can be considered as a success for the Hoops, who remarkably are still in the title race, albeit thanks to the genius of Martin O’Neill.

The last two transfer windows will be a serious wake-up call for the Bhoys, with those making the list fully deserving of their place.

Three Celtic transfer flops named in unwanted list

A piece by The Scotsman gave their view on the 10 worst transfers made by clubs in the Scottish Premiership this season.

Three of those were Celtic players, with Rangers the only side to have as many as Michel-Ange Balikwisha, Joel Mvuka and Junior Adamu were named.

Balikwisha had been tracked by Celtic for over a year but has provided no return on the near £5m investment they made to sign him from Royal Antwerp.

Winter transfer window loanees Mvuka and Adamu have barely featured and have seemed like complete wastes.

Adamu did show some promise when he scored on his debut, but has shown nothing since then. As for Mvuka, the less said the better.

Celtic cannot afford to fail in the recruitment department again

This summer will see the Hoops undergo one of the biggest squad upheavals in some time.

67 Hail Hail think the rebuild job is bigger than the one overseen by Ange Postecoglou, with the future of many players on the line.

It isn’t just about getting deadwood out of the door, it is also about replacing first-team talent like Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate, who are expected to depart.

Having a season of transfers like the 2025/26 campaign will only see the club regress further and allow Hearts, Rangers, and others, to compete even more.
