Scotland’s Euro 2020 squad will have a fair contingent of Celtic players. We know that much.
Barring injuries, Ryan Christie, Callum McGregor and James Forrest will all fancy a shot in Steve Clarke’s starting line-up for the opener against Czech Republic on June 14th.
Greg Taylor will also expect to be in the reckoning, while Scott Brown could even make a dramatic return.
But Celtic may also be able to provide a pretty surprising trio of players between now and June – depending on how things pan out.
Here are three players contracted to the club who could still leap into Steve Clarke’s plans.
Many seem to have forgotten about this little winger.
Last seen being told to “(something) off” by Neil Lennon in a win over St. Johnstone in late January, the 21-year-old has had an injury ravaged 2020.
But there is talk that he is not too far away from a Hoops return – and with the Euros still eight months away, anything is possible.
If Johnston can get back in Lennon’s good books, and produce the quality we know he is capable of, then he could be a wildcard pick for his country.
Our new midfield ace has his work cut-out getting in to a strong Scotland midfield.
But if he can manage it with Celtic then he may feel doing it at international level is possible too.
Turnbull has immense quality, and has already shown that with the Scotland under-21 side.
If he can help them to qualify for their own European Championships, and then play in it in March, it may be hard for Clarke not to include him in his squad.
The defender is out of contract at Parkhead in the summer – and certainly doesn’t seem to have any future under Neil Lennon.
But the story could be different at international level. Despite Scotland losing just one goal in their last four competitive matches, there is a feeling that we don’t have great strength in depth in defence.
Hendry has been a success for Belgian side Oostende so far this season, and an impressive loan spell could certainly give Steve Clarke something to think about.
A lot can happen in eight months.
