The Brendan Rodgers Celtic appointment has received another seal of approval from former Celtic midfielder, John Collins.
The return of Rodgers caused a multitude of headlines this week as Celtic sealed the deal to bring him back to the club after the departure of Ange Postecoglou to Spurs and Collins pinpoints why Celtic were right to make him their number one target.
Collins said [BBC Sportsound], “I think it was a straightforward appointment from a Celtic board point of view.

“They’ve lost a great manager in Ange Postecoglou. Brendan Rodgers is out of contract, there’s no compensation, he has been at the club before, he’s won trebles, he’s played entertaining football, a wonderful communicator, so he ticks every single box.
“The only thing that could be questioned is how he left and when he left. But that happened. If you ask the majority of Celtic supporters, did they enjoy watching Brendan Rodgers’ team and enjoy them picking up trophy after trophy they would say yes.
“I am a huge admirer of Brendan. I think he’s a top-quality manager. I was disappointed when he left Celtic. My opinion was is that he left at the wrong time. My opinion is that he was better than Leicester City football club.
“When you make the decision you stick by it, but in later years you reflect and I think, maybe, Brendan when he looks back on it, he might think it was the wrong move.
“But he’s back and Celtic and I think they have got a top-quality manager. No doubt about it.”
Rodgers’ return does seem to have the backing of the majority of the Celtic fans. I thought the new manager spoke very well at the press conferences, although he did seem a little nervous.

That was only to be expected, to be fair. Rodgers is only too aware of the feelings of some fans on his return to the Parkhead manager’s role. And whilst it seems that the majority of fans have backed his return, there is an element who remain unconvinced.
And that is understandable. However, Rodgers is in now. The Celtic manager and the team will require the backing of the full support.
I am sure that when the first whistle blows of the new campaign on the 5th/6th of August, Rodgers will have that as he looks to defend our domestic treble.
