Ryan Christie’s Bournemouth season is over for Celtic hero’s surgery

Ryan Christie has been superb for Bournemouth this campaign so far and has really developed into one of the club’s most important players.

The playmaker was even applauded by Jamie Carragher in a recent analysis of Andoni Iraola’s squad where the 30-year-old has come on leaps and bounds and developed an understanding of exactly what the manager wants.

Unfortunately injury waits for no man and the attacker has had groin surgery on the backburner for some time.

But now he has confirmed via his social media page on Instagram that he will fast-track that now and end his campaign early in a bid to be back fit and firing next season all healed up.

“Time to heal,” Christie wrote on his page in a post which racked up thousands of likes in a short space of time.

Christie has found it difficult to complete 90 minutes in matches in recent times having played a part of his last nine matches without a full 90 to his name.

What manager Andoni Iraola has said about ‘worrying’ Christie issue

And manager Iraola recently told of his “worry” for the player and his situation.

He said last week: “Ryan’s situation is worrying because he has been dealing with a groin issue, the pubis, the abductor, a little bit of everything since the beginning of the season.

“He’s so honest and he wants to push, even with pain he has been playing, and he’s played very well for a lot of time.

“I think it’s a moment where his body is telling him that maybe it’s time. We are trying to go with him until the end of the season but, against Brighton, there were moments where he felt he couldn’t anymore.

“That’s probably something that we have to analyse. There is a chance we decide that he should have the surgery now, recover, take his time and be ready for next season.

“It’s not something that we’ve decided but it’s a situation that we have to analyse well because I think his body is telling him he’s pushed it a lot.”
