Calvin Miller’s future at Parkhead certainly doesn’t look too pretty at the moment.
The left-sided star is currently on loan at Ayr United, where he has had a productive campaign. The 21-year-old has featured on 12 occasions for the Honest Men too. That came after 16 outings with Dundee during the first half of the season.
But the youngster hasn’t really stood out the way he would need to in order to impress at Parkhead.
Indeed, at Dens Park during the first half of the season, he was shipped back to Parkhead under Jim McIntyre. Signed by Neil McCann in the summer, McIntyre’s arrival saw a changing of the guard, and Miller was out the door.

Picked up by Ayr United, he seems to have been a bit of a utility man. Left-back, left-wing, up top, Miller has picked up all three positions during his time at Somerset.
At Celtic, of course, he’s been plying his trade at left-back, and has failed to make an overly successful impression. Indeed, Miller has now had five outings for the Hoops, all of which as a left-back.
But despite his relative success at Ayr United, it’s now difficult to see where Miller breaks through at Celtic.
Miller will be a success in football
That’s not to say Miller isn’t a good player. There’s plenty of talent in there to be developed yet. But at 21 years of age, he needs consistent game-time. As it currently stands, Celtic can’t offer him that at all.
He isn’t better than any of the current left-wingers or left-backs at the club just now. Celtic don’t play with a second-striker either, something Miller was used to during his youth days at Parkhead.

His contract runs out in the summer of 2020. Celtic, therefore, have a big decision to make here. Do they cut ties with Miller in a year’s time? Do they try and get him off the books now for a small fee? Or do they sign him up once more and give him one last chance to get himself into first-team contention at Parkhead?
Miller is a solid youngster. He’ll forge a successful career in the game regardless of what happens. But at the moment, it just feels as though Celtic is a bridge too far for him at the moment.
