Timo Weah, Boli Bolingoli and Celtic fans respond to Odsonne Edouard's triumphant Instagram post

Odsonne Edouard hasn’t exactly had the best of seasons so far, but he may just have found the spark that will get him going again.

Last night’s 3-1 win for France under-21s at home to Switzerland saw French Eddy bag a brace and overtake Moussa Dembele as the top scorer at under-21 level.

It comes after a dreadful run of form at Parkhead that has seen him net only one goal in his last seven Premiership games (Transfermarkt). Edouard was in desperate need of a lift from somewhere, and it looks like it arrived in France as he helped confirm their place as group winners in their Euro qualifying section.

And the big man also made a remark on his Instagram page to celebrate it.

The big striker wrote: “First place in the group and qualifying for the Euro ✅🇫🇷 #LVDA“. The image published was a class photo of the France under-21 squad in the midst of their euphoric celebrations:

He was certainly getting plenty of congratulations and applause from his fellow professionals both at home and abroad.

The likes of Timo Weah, Boli Bolingoli, and Matteo Guendouzi all replied to the post, as did a host of Celtic supporters who were keen to give their thoughts on the Frenchman’s recent form.

At the time of writing, just under 14,000 of his supporters have liked the post.

Of course, it’s great to see that Edouard will be making a major tournament with the under-21s. His talent deserves to shine there, but more importantly, we need him to start turning it on in Glasgow.

Only Edouard can truly answer why he suddenly managed to find his form away with his national team. It certainly doesn’t help the cynical among us who will feel he appears to push himself that little bit more when he heads back home.

But this is a huge season in Edouard’s career. Not only can he secure 10-in-a-row and leave Parkhead a Celtic legend, but he can also attract some major interest if he performs well in this season of seasons.

Even if there is a bit of the downing of tools about him, it’s not going to do him much good. Great players perform regardless of speculation over their future, and only through top performances will Edouard be able to be the commodity he was last season.

And that’s the message many Celtic fans appear to be trying to get through to the former PSG starlet as they replied to his triumphant post.

Below, we take a look at a selection of the most popular comments.
