Timothy Castagne’s agent has reportedly failed to mention Celtic as one of the clubs interested in his client.

According to Italian outlet Cittaceleste, several suitors in Europe have their eyes on the Atalanta right-back, but Celtic don’t appear to be one of them. This news comes thanks to an exclusive interview the outlet had with his agent, Ulisse Savini.

The Hoops had been linked with Castagne at the start of the transfer window. Due to his lack of game-time at Atalanta – he’s made just 10 outings this season – the Belgian is looking for a move away.

This has evidently interested several clubs. Celtic, however, don’t appear to be one of them if you listen to Savini.

“The chance to see him at Lazio is concrete. Igli Tare likes the player (Lazio Sporting Director).

“In Italy there is also Fiorentina keen on the player. And abroad, there are some German clubs.”

Any hopes of getting him are now surely dashed

Any chances Celtic have of getting Castagne are surely now over. The club don’t appear to be even interested in the player, nevermind considering an offer.

The Hoops may very well have turned around at the thought of a £10million price-tag. Castagne, however, would undoubtedly solve the pressing right-back issue.

Mikael Lustig is rumoured to be heading back to Sweden, with Anthony Ralston his only viable replacement. Cristian Gamboa’s contract is up at the end of the season and is highly unlikely to be renewed.

The club still have plenty of work to do in this transfer window. That’s despite the fact they’ve already made three signings in forward positions.

A move for Castagne, however, can probably be ruled out. Even if Celtic did have a late interest in the Belgian international, they have some stiff competition. Clubs in the Bundesliga and Serie A would have stronger pulling power due to their wages and standard of league.

It looks like Celtic have perhaps missed the chance to make a surprise move for him. His name can be crossed out at this stage – Celtic aren’t in for him.
