Timothy Weah’s Celtic spell didn’t end the way anyone would’ve liked, but he stated he’ll always be thankful for the opportunity.

Weah made a positive impression on the Celtic supporters last season. He made 17 appearances for the Parkhead side, and notched four goals during his time under Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon respectively.

His impact was even more impressive considering the upheaval at the club. Originally brought in under Rodgers, he was then ditched when the Northern Irishman went to Leicester City. Lenny came in, and didn’t provide the USA international anywhere near as much game-time.

His time in Glasgow ended after a club-vs-country row, with the truth about that incident never truly being defined. But despite that, Weah has taken to Instagram story during a live Q&A to praise the time he had at the club. He said the following on his Instagram story when asked what he missed most about Celtic.

“How genuine and loving the people were. Always thank god for that experience and opportunity.”

Weah was a fine player, but regret over his Celtic spell exists

The son of famous African striker George Weah – Timothy had a reputation to uphold when he arrived at Parkhead. Nobody was expecting the same levels of class as his superstar father had, but we were all hoping he could make an impact in Glasgow.

During the early stages under Rodgers, it looked like he would do just that. Weah managed goals against Airdrieonians and St Mirren respectively. He also scored a vital goal at St Johnstone in a game that was massive for the title-race.

But Rodgers’ departure didn’t help him one bit. After all, he was the man who put his trust in Weah to arrive at the club. Neil Lennon came in and immediately put all of his faith in Odsonne Edouard. If it wasn’t him, Oli Burke was getting opportunities up top.

Weah was often limited to substitute appearances. However, the fact he didn’t make the Scottish Cup final due to being sent home left this loan spell clouded in regret. He also didn’t manage to feature in the 2-0 defeat to Rangers at Ibrox. He could’ve made a real difference in that one given how lethargic we were in the final third back in May.

But now he’s moved on to Lille. A return to Parkhead could always happen in the future, but it looks a long way away now.

Weah made a positive contribution during his spell in Glasgow overall. He injected some freshness and energy at a time when the club was craving it. Despite the “what ifs” surrounding his time here, he proved to be a fine footballer.
