Timothy Weah has revealed that he wants his dad to be at Parkhead for the visit of Valencia next month.

The heroic football icon George Weah, Timo’s father, has already been confirmed as a future Celtic Park attendee by his son. But we could now have a date as the Hoops welcome the Spanish side to Parkhead.

Celtic and Valencia have of course been paired together in the Europa League last-32. You would already expect Weah to be starting in that match either ahead of Odsonne Edouard or along with him.

But whilst Weah Jr didn’t confirm his dad would be there for that contest in particular, he did say he’ll be at Parkhead in February. Speaking to the Scottish Mail on Sunday, Weah spoke of his father’s arrival.

“I think he should be coming in February, around my birthday.

“I can’t wait for him to experience this and see how crazy the fans are and savour the atmosphere when we get a goal.

“It would be good if he is here for the Valencia game, I know the atmosphere will be insane. I’ve had an amazing welcome. And you could see from my celebration that I already love the club.”

An exciting prospect

Many of today’s new generation of supporters won’t remember Weah Sr at all. His playing days finished in 2003, with the peak of his career coming in the 90s. Everyone, however, is aware of the talent he once was.

If the Liberia president is indeed arriving on February 14th for Valencia, he’ll be a highly welcome guest.

The Valencia tie is already going to be an exciting occasion. It has the feeling of the Zenit St Petersburg clash last year to it, and the match itself is sure to be a classic between two of the great names of the game.

Weah Sr’s arrival, however, will make for compelling viewing too. He carries such legendary aura around with him, given his sensational accolades throughout his career.

A three-time African Footballer of the Year. Ballon d’Or winner of 1995. Fifa World Player of the Year 1995. These are just several of the over 20 individual honours Weah has won for his footballing days.

Now, it’s Weah Jr who’s looking to make his mark in the game.
