Timothy Weah’s uncle says the Celtic star’s mother was his surprise footballing mentor.

This is a shock with the American having a Ballon d’Or winning father.

Celtic fans are becoming more familiar with the youngster’s mother Clar, with her attending the recent victory over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

Weah’s career accelerating thanks to mother

The 18-year-old’s uncle, soccer coach Michael Duncan, gave fans a secret insight on his nephew’s career.

He told The Scottish Sun: “Clar was Timothy’s first coach.

“She was involved in every aspect of his soccer development and guided him every step of the way.

“She was an avid football fan and could teach him certain things.”

Clar raised Weah in Brooklyn, New York while world class father George was playing in France and the United Arab Emirates.

Duncan still says the former best player in the world still gives his son hints and tips on his development.

Currently, he is the President of Liberia, taking up politics following his retirement from football.

Duncan said: “He’s very close with his father too. They have a very loving relationship.”

Hopefully the Hoops faithful can see the former AC Milan player at Parkhead before his loan is up.

Weah adjusting to life in Glasgow and Scottish football

Ever the polite young gentleman, the younger Weah shocked many by his post-match antics at Rugby Park.

The American appeared to be wound up by the Kilmarnock players and issued an apology that night.

This all happened in front of his visiting mother who went to her first Scottish Premiership game.

Hopefully, this will fire Weah up for future big battles against the likes of Rangers and Aberdeen in future.

Plus, Celtic have it all to do on Thursday when another massive character performance must present itself to outdo a two goal deficit at Valencia.

If the on-loan PSG man can produce the goods in Spain, people will know him for more than being George and Clar’s son.
