Jeremy Toljan has an intriguing start to his Celtic career. The Hoops were in need of a right-back to challenge Mikael Lustig, and Toljan arrived on loan from Borussia Dortmund in January.
He immediately replaced Lustig in the team, and looked decent against St Johnstone. However, he and the rest of his team-mates had a poor game in the 2-0 Europa League loss to Valencia.
A tough test ahead
Now Toljan faces another tough test, as the Hoops head to Rugby Park to take on Kilmarnock on their notorious plastic pitch.
The Hoops lost 2-1 on their last visit to Rugby Park, and it will be a tough task to pick up three points against Steve Clarke’s side.
Toljan must adapt to surface
It will be interesting to see how Toljan adapts to playing on the surface. It can be hazardous at times, and both Kristoffer Ajer and Dedryck Boyata suffered injuries on the pitch last season.
Perhaps if it wasn’t such a big game, Brendan Rodgers would consider giving Toljan a break for this game. Lustig could fill-in as he is more used to playing on artificial surfaces.
But with the Hoops in the middle of a title race, the strongest available side will no doubt be selected. Which means a start for the recent arrival.
The Hoops needed a new right-back and Toljan fit the bill. Now we will find out if he is good enough for the Bhoys.
