Former Celtic captain Tom Boyd has had his say about one of the biggest issues that has affected Celtic in the run-up to Sunday’s Betfred Cup Final against Rangers.

That is, Odsonne Edouard’s fitness issues. The Hoops striker has returned to training after a recent injury. However, Boyd isn’t sure if the Frenchman is fit enough to take part in the Hampden Park showdown.

“I believe Edouard’s done a little bit of light training, that’ll be nip and tuck before the cup final” he said, in a video on Celtic TV’s Twitter account.

If Boyd is correct and Edouard has only done some light training this week, then it must be unlikely that the player will start at Hampden Park. It could also be a bit of a gamble to put the player on the bench.

On the positive side though, Neil Lennon was quoted on STV sports reporter Raman Bhardwaj’s Twitter account suggesting that there was a ‘very good chance’ Edouard will start the cup final.

Celtic will not be giving much away about Edouard’s status until the team is revealed on Sunday afternoon. It is better to keep Rangers guessing about Edouard’s availability for the game.

However, even if Edouard isn’t fit enough to start, it would be a bonus to the Hoops support to see Edouard at least on the bench.

Imagine the reception Edouard would get coming onto the pitch in the second-half. He could turn the game in a matter of minutes. He did that in Celtic’s 4-3 against Aberdeen on Boxing Day 2018. Who would bet against him doing the same in the cup final? Its already been shown numerous times that Rangers can’t deal with him and his attacking play.

Edouard’s availability will no doubt be a big talking point amongst Hoops fans as they count down the hours to the cup final. When the team is announced on Sunday at around two o’clock, all will be revealed.
