Tom Rogic could still have a bright future at Celtic

Talk seems to have gone quiet around the potential departure of Tom Rogic from Celtic this summer.

At the start of July, the Herald reported that Russian champions Zenit St. Petersburg were lining up a £9million move for the Australian international.

The report also claimed that a top-flight English side were also interested in the 26-year-old who featured 35 times for the Hoops last season.

Rogic could still have a bright Celtic future

Nearly a month has passed and no official bid has been lodged. That’s not to say that Rogic couldn’t still move this summer, but it certainly seems less likely than a few weeks ago.

The Aussie has been Celtic’s forgotten man so far this summer. Like Kieran Tierney, he is working on rehab after a number of injuries from last season crept into the new campaign.

It seems remarkable that one of Celtic’s most important players from just 12 months ago could be so quickly forgotten about.

Of course everyone is still aware of what Rogic can do, but it’s just been so long since he last did it.

Rogic has never really been a prolific scorer – his highest total in a single season for Celtic is 12 goals. Nevertheless, his five goal contribution last season, and the consistent below par performances, did not pass acceptable standards.

He still has so much to offer but, for the first time in a good while, he has a job on his hands just to get back in to the team.

But that’s not to say that he can’t do it. The 26-year-old is a sublime player capable of lighting up any occasion on his day. If Neil Lennon can get him back up to speed and hungry again then he could still be a massive player this coming season.

And just like Griffiths, Morgan and Bitton – Celtic will have found what feels like a new signing.
