Tom Rogic reportedly wanted by English Premier duo

Tom Rogic has been linked with a move away from Celtic this summer. The Syndey Morning Herald reports that the Aussie is attracting interest from both Leicester and Southampton.

Rogic is rumoured to be valued at between 10 and 20 million pounds. That means that he could break the transfer record for an Australian player if he moves on. The current record is around £12milion – set by Mark Bresciano in 2002.

Southampton seems like the most likely destination for Rogic given the strong ties between the clubs in recent seasons. Over the past ten years, the Saints have signed a number of top players from the Hoops. They include Virgil Van Dijk, Victor Wanyama and Fraser Forster.

Stuart Armstrong is the most recent player to make the move and he’s enjoyed a decent first season at St. Mary’s.

Rogic should demand a high fee

Celtic must use their relationship with the Saints to their advantage in any potential negotiations. The south coast side have spent around £40million on Hoops players in recent years. They made around triple that by selling Van Dijk and Wanyama alone.

Celtic should play on their reputation as a reliable marketplace by demanding as high as fee as possible for Rogic. The playmaker is contracted until 2023 so we should be in no rush to sell.

Saints know they get value for money with their signings from us so we should make sure they pay top dollar. It would also make sense to add a neat sell on fee clause into the deal. We’ve seen the benefit that has had in the past.
