The idea of Tom Rogic to England has come up a couple of times in the past, and it has done once again today.

Last night, Rogic was linked with a move to Zenit St Petersburg. The Herald reported that the Russian outfit were preparing a £9million bid for the Australian sensation.

The Evening Times also reported the news, whilst saying that Celtic wanted £15m and no less for Rogic. And, in another twist, the Evening Times also believes that Rogic has a preference to go to England.

The report states that an unnamed Premier League side is also keeping tabs on Rogic. And, in a twist that may make some Celtic fans a tad concerned, that is apparently the player’s preference.

Celtic are apparently expected to be approached by Zenit with a formal offer in the coming days. Rogic played against the Russians back in 2018 during the Europa League knockout stages. But fans shouldn’t be worried about where the player’s heart is.

Rogic to England could’ve happened 12 months ago

Rogic showed absolutely no intention of going to England a year ago. In fact, instead, he signed a lucrative new five-year deal and spoke about how much he loved representing Celtic (Celticfc.net). All eyes were on the future, and any notion of a move to England was put to bed.

Over the course of a season in which Rogic scored four and assisted five, he didn’t show any signs of unrest. Certainly, it was nothing that the supporters or management seemed to pick up on.

In addition to that, he owes supporters after the poor year he’s just had. Being away with Australia and missing a massive Glasgow derby was sore enough. But coming back and picking up a long-term injury lay-off before performing poorly in the final few games of the season was a sore way to finish up the campaign.

He owes the fans for some lost time last season. He also hasn’t shown anything other than 100% commitment to the club, especially since signing his new five-year contract.

So, when you look at any reports of Rogic eyeing up a move elsewhere, take it with a pinch of salt. He gets linked with these kinds of moves every summer, and he still ends up staying and giving it his all.

Why should this summer be any different?
