Tony Mowbray didn’t quite work out as Celtic manager during his short stint in Glasgow.

It was a tough time for the Englishman who had been a player at Parkhead between 1991-95.

Mogga was appointed boss in 2009 when Celts paid £2million to West Brom to hire their manager but it didn’t go too well as he won just over 51 percent of his matches before he was sacked.

Since those days, Mowbray has had a number of jobs in the dugout with different levels of success.

That includes guiding Middlesbrough and Coventry City to safety against the odds.

His Blackburn Rovers side won promotion in 2018 before he would move on to Sunderland before taking time out of the game while at Birmingham City following a cancer diagnosis.

Tony Mowbray has rejoined West Brom as manager

Now cancer-free, the 61-year-old is ready to get back in the saddle.

And he does so in familiar territory.

Mowbray has led a storied life but now his next chapter takes him all the way back to 2006 and the Baggies for a second stint and a sensational comeback.

WBA announced last night that they had agreed a deal with Mogga to return on a two-and-a-half year contract.

The club’s statement read: “West Bromwich Albion are delighted to confirm the appointment of Tony Mowbray as men’s first team Head Coach.

“The 61-year-old has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract and will take charge of his first game when the Baggies travel to Middlesbrough on Tuesday.

“Chris Brunt will oversee the Sky Bet Championship clash against Stoke City at The Hawthorns on Saturday, with Mowbray observing from the stands.

“Mowbray is a highly respected coach and leader, having previously guided Albion to the 2007/08 Championship title, before enjoying successful tenures at several EFL clubs.

“The experienced boss, who has overseen more than 800 professional fixtures, returns to The Hawthorns with long-time assistant Mark Venus.”

What Mowbray said about returning to WBA

Mowbray spoke on his return to management and West Brom in particular.

And he gets ready to take Mikey Johnston under his wing after the wide man moved permanently last summer.

The manager himself added: “I’m ready to relish the challenge again. It’s a new challenge.

“I know I’ve been here before, but it’s a new challenge, a new time, a new era for me at the football club.”

Johnston, meanwhile, has been accused of going “AWOL” at West Brom which is one issue Mowbray will have to address.
