Tony Watt has his say on Ryan Christie three-match ban

The Scottish FA’s decision to hand Celtic’s Ryan Christie a three-match ban for a recent incident with Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos is certainly a controversial one.

Especially when you consider that Morelos escaped a ban for a similar incident with Celtic’s Anthony Ralston last season.

One man who didn’t hold back with his view on the decision is former Celtic striker Tony Watt. The man who once scored the winning goal against Barcelona took to social media to express his disgust at the decision.

“One of the worst things”

“That Christie decision is one of the worst things I’ve seen” he posted on Twitter.

No doubt more than a few Celtic fans agreed with Watt’s comments. However, the statement that Celtic released on the matter was more circumspect than Watt’s comments. They did note that they weren’t happy with the decision though.

Christie received a two-match ban for the incident itself, but all in all he will serve three matches as he received a red card earlier this season. However, as the player is currently out of action after a recent groin operation, it is unlikely that he will be fit for any of the matches that he is set to miss.

Interesting to see if club comment further

What will be interesting to see is if Celtic prepare any further statements on the incident. There is no doubt that some in the Hoops support will like to see the Hoops call out why Christie received a ban when Morelos did not.

It remains to be seen if that will happen or not. It is not usually the way Celtic do things. However, the bottom line is that Christie can feel very unfortunate about the ban he has received.

Hopefully it spurs him on to perform even better in the second-half of the season. That will be the best possible answer from the player to this decision.
