Former Celtic striker Tony Watt firmly believes that recent Hoops signing David Turnbull will go on to have a very successful career with the Bhoys, the Glasgow Times reports.
Watt recently played alongside Turnbull at Motherwell, and he has no doubt that the midfielder has all the qualities required to make it at Celtic Park.
“He has got the temperament you need”
“He has got the temperament that you need at a club like that. He will just take it in his stride” Watt said, as quoted by the Glasgow Times.
“You see many people go there and fail. I would bet anything that that boy won’t fail because of what he has got in his head and obviously at his feet. He has got what not many people in this country have.”
Watt’s comments certainly sound very promising. Turnbull will need a good temperament to make it with the Hoops, but in overcoming a serious knee injury he has shown that he knows who to deal with setbacks.
Perhaps in the short-term Turnbull’s biggest issue will be finding a place in the starting line-up. After all, Celtic do have a lot of midfielders.
What could be in his favour though is that Celtic haven’t exactly started the season in great form. That could mean that Turnbull gets his chance for the Hoops sooner than expected.
Can replace players in need of a rest
The addition of Turnbull to the middle of the park could also provide Celtic with another bonus. It will enable Neil Lennon to rest one of the midfield regulars, who have been playing a lot of football in recent seasons.
Turnbull seems like an ideal option to replace Callum McGregor in the starting line-up when McGregor needs a rest, for example.
Hopefully Turnbull shows so much in his first appearances for the Hoops that he becomes a first-team regular for the rest of the season. If he plays as well as Watt believes he can, he could play a major role in the 10 in a row campaign.
