Former Celtic transfer target David Turnbull is stepping up his recovery from the serious injury that scuppered his move to Neil Lennon’s Hoops and has produced a stunning moment in Motherwell training.

Celtic agreed on a fee for Turnbull last June but ultimately had to release a statement to fans explaining that the deal had fallen through due to an unforeseen injury issue.

Knee surgery was required and the midfielder has spent much of the season in rehabilitation.

However, he did return for 19 minutes of action against St Mirren on Tuesday night and is now closing in on making his first start of the season.

Former Celtic European hero Tony Watt is now a teammate of Turnbull and took to Twitter yesterday to react to an incredible training moment, with the midfielder netting a goal from kick-off in a practice match.

Will Celtic return for Turnbull?

Given how serious our interest in the player was last summer, you’d have to think that our coaching staff and scouts will be keeping an incredibly close eye on his progress between now and the end of the season.

Turnbull’s ability to find the back of the net is not just restricted to training.

Last season he netted a superb 16 goals in 34 appearances for the Steelmen, also contributing seven assists.

It was the kind of form that marked him out as a stand-out Scottish Premiership performer and someone with the ability to fit in at Celtic.

If he can produce something close to that consistency before the end of May then it’d be no surprise to see Celtic reignite interest and make a move.

That’s a big if though. First and foremost the player’s priority will be getting back up to full match fitness.
