Aberdeen manager Jim Goodwin has been slapped with an eight-match dugout ban after speaking out on the incident which resulted in Celtic loanee Liam Scales’ sending off against Hibernian.
The Bhoys 24-year-old got caught in a tangle with Ryan Porteous during the Scottish Premiership clash, conceding a penalty and receiving a second yellow card.
Goodwin was furious after the match and slated Porteous, saying [Daily Record]: “I don’t know how many times the boy Porteous can get away with that kind of stuff. We showed our players a number of instances when Porteous has won penalties like that in the past. People will say he’s good at it and he’s clever. But it’s blatant cheating as far as I’m concerned, and it’s cost my team points.
Goodwin also said: “The talking point is right on half-time, the penalty decision. You are always worried who is marking Ryan Porteous because you know what he is like, he’s won so many free-kicks and penalties for his conning of the referee, he goes over very easy. People will say that’s sour grapes on my part, but I don’t care because today that’s cost my team at least a point, if not three.
“I don’t know what Liam Scales can do when Ryan Porteous grabs him in a headlock and drags him to the ground.”
The SFA have now confirmed he will not be in the dugout for Aberdeen’s next six matches, with a further two-match ban suspended until the end of the season.
Celtic don’t play the Dons until 17th December at Pittodrie, so Goodwin will be back in the dugout for that one.
Scales is now a regular for Aberdeen and has made 11 appearances in all competitions, although was forced to sit out of an impressive 4-1 victory over Kilmarnock serving this red card suspension.
He’ll likely be back in the team shortly, with Goodwin’s outfit set to travel to Tannadice in an experimental Saturday evening kick-off.
