TV list leaves out notable derby triumph

With the new decade only a few days old, it is not surprising to see reviews of the last 10 years appearing, especially when it comes to football.

Recently, Celtic TV complied a list of the top 10 Celtic games of the 2010s.

Unsurprisingly, Celtic’s epic 2-1 win over Barcelona topped the list, with the away win over Lazio in 2019 and the Scottish Cup Final win over Aberdeen in 2017 close behind.

However, it was a bit of a surprise to see the 3-0 win over Shakhter Karagandy included. That was certainly a memorable European night, but one of the best of the decade? That might be going to far.

There were some notable omissions. The 3-2 win over Spartak Moscow in 2012 to name but one, that was Celtic’s first ever Champions League away win.

Triumph for manager

The game which really stands out as missing from the list is the 2-0 win over Rangers at Ibrox in 2011. That game was a triumph for Neil Lennon, as his injury ravaged Celtic side pulled off an unexpected derby win.

That match all but kickstarted Lennon’s managerial career with the Hoops, and it is still fondly remembered nine years later. It really is a bit of a surprise to see it missing from the list, as it truly was a great day for Celtic.

Hoops have been remarkably successful for a decade

The fact that a notable win at Ibrox is missing from the list just shows how successful Celtic have been over the last 10 years.

A host of teams would love to have the results that Celtic managed to achieve in the 2010s. The Hoops were remarkably successful in that time, winning eight league titles and a host of cup competitions.

It remains to be seen if the Hoops will be as successful in the 2020s. They will need to go a long way to achieve the glorious times that occurred at the club in the decade just ended.
