‘Unbelievable’ – Tommy Johnson points out what Celtic are doing that’s annoying for Rangers

Celtic are miles ahead of Rangers on the park right now.

Celtic were named Scotland’s most successful club after beating Rangers in the League Cup final in December to win the club’s 119th trophy.

Winning another league title by a huge 17 points, Celtic were streets ahead of their Glasgow rivals in the Scottish Premiership as the Ibrox club ended another season trophyless.

Off the park, Celtic are in another financial stratosphere as the Parkhead club remain Scotland’s richest football team.

A large part of that is down to Celtic’s transfer policy and it seems that Tommy Johnson reckons that one thing the Parkhead club is doing is annoying Rangers right now.

Rangers are not ‘too happy’ about Celtic’s transfer success

Johnson has pointed to Celtic’s transfer policy as the one thing that the club are doing that is really annoying Rangers as their recruitment lags behind the Parkhead club.

Johnson told the Irish Daily Mirror, “It’s been unbelievable. You get some wrong, we all do.

“But what’s happened with Celtic – and then you look at Rangers’ recruitment, I don’t think they’re too happy.

“Celtic have just nailed it so many times. They never break the bank to get players but they always sell them for a profit.

“Matt O’Riley was brought in for £1.5million and you see how much they sold him for (£25m).

“The recruitment scene has changed dramatically in a short period of time. But I believe there are still gems to be found.”

Celtic’s recruitment is crucial for the new season

Celtic fans will point to games against Rangers this season as an indicator that the team is not as far ahead of Rangers many believe it is.

The league table suggests otherwise but with an apparent ‘takeover’ of the Ibrox club apparently looming, recruitment will be key to keeping them at arm’s length.

Celtic have plenty of cash in the bank and fans will be expecting heavy investment in the summer to see more continued progress in Europe.
