There is no doubt that the news that Henrik Larsson, as reported by The Scottish Sun, is a candidate to join Celtic’s coaching staff would have grabbed the attention of many Celtic fans.

However, of just as much interest in the report was the revelation that Johan Mjallby is also a candidate to join up with Neil Lennon.

Key part of coaching staff

Should Mjallby return to Celtic for a third time the Hoops support would be delighted. Mjallby was a key part of Lennon’s coaching staff in his first spell as Celtic boss.

However, he quit Celtic in 2014, only a month before Lennon followed him out of the door.

Link of continuity

The return of Mjallby would also add a link of continuity between Lennon’s first and second spells as manager. Lennon’s coaches from his first spell as manager – Garry Parker and Alan Thompson – won’t be part of the staff this time around.

Therefore, it would perhaps be a good idea to bring in Mjallby. He will be used to Lennon’s methods far more than the current coaching staff, who have only worked with Lennon since February.

Whilst the news about Larsson has grabbed all the attention, Mjallby would arguably be the better appointment. He has more experience in the field of management.

Sometimes going back to a club you were successful at doesn’t work. However, it worked first time around for Mjallby and Lennon. Who would bet against history repeating itself?
