Celtic’s win over St Mirren keeps Brendan Rodgers’ title defence back on track after the disappointment of the New Year defeat to Rangers.
The Bhoys beat St Mirren after receiving the unexpected bonus of Rangers dropping points at Hibs to increase their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership to 13 points ahead of the midweek fixtures on Wednesday night.
Brendan Rodgers was delighted with Celtic’s win and stated that he was delighted with Celtic midfielder, Luke McCowan’s performance against Stephen Robinson’s side.
However, it was another Hoops player who Simon Donnelly and Gerry McCulloch spotted on Celtic TV who looked ‘angry’ and seemed to want to prove a point after the Rangers defeat on Thursday.
Celtic hero wanted ‘to show something’ vs St Mirren after Rangers defeat
Celtic goal hero, Nicolas Kuhn, added a brace to his tally as he put St Mirren to the sword at Parkhead but it seems that the German winger was ‘angry’ during his time on the pitch.
Donnelly told Celtic TV, “Yes, a good 45 minutes. A good 45 minutes of work. Started really well. I think the manager would have emphasized that before they came on to the pitch.
“Starts with the Kuhn run in the first couple of seconds in the game. He can be so quick, Gerry, and I kept saying here, just keep running. Keep running at them, because they don’t want to defend this kind of thing.
“And he’s so direct. It sets the tone for the game. A real positive start. And we win the corner seconds into the match.”
McCulloch: “It seemed to me, and I mean this in the best possible way, he looks angry out there. It’s almost as if he’s really looking to show something.”
Donnelly: “Well he had a quiet game the other day. It’s very unlike him. He’s been electric this season. His form has been unbelievable.
“His assists, his goals, his creativity and there’s an aggressiveness there with him. With that first run set the tone.
“Then we found it a wee bit difficult to break St Mirren down, similar to the last two home games.”
Nicolas Kuhn makes Celtic admission on Rangers defeat after beating St Mirren
The Celtic winger was on media duties after the match and it seems this anger had subsided after his two goals helped seal the St Mirren win.
However, Kuhn was asked about the Rangers defeat as he admitted that the team were simply not on it against their Glasgow rivals.
Kuhn said, “Really important [how the team reacted to Derby defeat]. I think we were not used to losing and we did much better, scored some goals and happy with the three points.
“Yeah, 100%, it was not enough from everyone and we had to show it right.”
Kuhn is now on 16 goals for the season and it looks like he is not slowing down. With plenty of fixtures still to come for Celtic in January, the supporters will be hoping that he keeps up his red-hot streak to pile on more misery to Rangers who must be toiling after the weekend’s disappointment.
