Upcoming coverage after silent start; the Celtic TV situation for the rest of pre-season

Celtic supporters should be able to see more of the team in action later this pre-season.

The Hoops played their first organised match on Wednesday evening as things got off to a strange start. There was no video, audio or text coverage of the clash against Portimonense.

Numerous score applications have the result down as a 0-0 draw although we’ll never know much else about the clash. Kick-off is said to have been held up an hour due to some Celtic fans trying to watch the match. (Football Scotland)

Some managed to see bits of the game from good vantage points although the vast, vast majority of supporters didn’t get to see any of the action.

To be fair to the club, there was never any indication that the game would be broadcast. Indeed, Celtic haven’t officially acknowledged the match happening.

The same score apps have us down for another clash against the Portuguese side on Saturday, although that match is likely to be a low-profile affair as well.

After that, the team will venture to Japan to face Yokohama F. Marinos and Gamba Osaka. The situation looks a bit better there for supporters.

The Celtic TV homepage has both matches confirmed for live coverage. Both pre-season encounters are scheduled to start at 11am, and it seems likely that Celtic will offer a bit of pre-match chat in their coverage.

The feed will be live to all Celtic TV subscribers worldwide, the website says.

After that we’ll only have two more friendlies to navigate before the real action starts. The team will face Wolves in Dublin on July 29 before Athletic Club visit Glasgow on August 1.

Neither match has been confirmed for television coverage yet on the the club site. An imminent announcement seems unlikely too, with plenty of tickets still on sale for both clashes.

The Wolves clash in particular may be one that appeals to a mainstream television channel like Viaplay, but we’ll have to wait for news on that front.

From next week onwards we should be able to watch this new Brendan Rodgers team in action.
