Celtic loanee Daniel Arzani looks likely to make his return from injury in the not too distant future if comments from his national manager are anything to go by.

Arzani has only appeared for the Hoops on one occasion, picking up a cruel ACL injury after coming on as a substitute in a win at Dens Park in October.

The official Socceroos website has run quotes from Australian head coach Graham Arnold on the Manchester City man. Arnold hopes to see Arzani back at international level in January.

He said: “Daniel is running. He’s pretty much up to training point.

“As for the Olympic qualifiers… Scotland have a winter break in January, so I do expect (Arzani) to be there.”

Another power struggle

It will be interesting to see if Australia try to pull one over Celtic again this January. Last year, the Aussies took talisman Tom Rogic from Celtic’s grasp just days before a crucial derby against Rangers. The Hoops had very little room for manoeuvre due to FIFA’s rules being weighted heavily in favour of international sides.

Australia were playing in the Asian Cup but their first match wasn’t until eight days after Celtic’s derby clash.

The 2020 youth tournament that Arnold refers to gets underway on 8th January so it will be interesting to see if a similar power struggle emerges. Arzani could prove to be a big player for the club by that stage and it would be unfortunate if he was missing for the New Year derby clash.

For now though, we’ll all just be glad to see him in a Celtic shirt again.
