Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi did not start Japan’s win away to Vietnam today, instead coming off the bench with just 15 minutes remaining of the 90.

There has been great intrigue from Celtic supporters on Kyogo’s international travels this season. Especially after he picked up an injury during the September window.

The Japanese talent has become crucial to the way Celtic play under Ange Postecoglou. Having him fit and available after these round the world trips is crucial.

He’ll be happy with his country’s win in Hanoi, while Celtic supporters will be delighted he’s come through the fixture having barely been used and without injury.

There may have been a good reason for his lack of action too.

As Japan Times journalist Dan Orlowitz points out this afternoon, Kyogo had limited training with his national teammates due to flight complications getting to Vietnam. He only managed to complete one session ahead of the fixture.

Kyogo may well be more involved in Muscat, Oman on Tuesday night, as Japan’s World Cup qualification bid continues.

The Celtic attacker will then return to Lennoxtown later in the week and hope to be in contention for the team to face St Johnstone at Hampden next week in the Scottish League Cup semi-final.

Fingers crossed he returns to Scotland with no issues so he can show his skills at the national stadium for the first time.
